Atlantic Coast Conference (13) The ACC was founded on May 8, 1953, at the Sedgefield Inn near Greensboro, N.C., with seven charter members -- Clemson, Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina and Wake Forest -- drawing up the conference by-laws.

Big 12 Conference (13) The conference is made up of 12 institutions that have shared many traditional rivalries throughout their histories. Member schools include - Baylor University, University of Colorado, Iowa State University, University of Kansas, Kansas State University, University of Missouri, University of Nebraska, University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, University of Texas, Texas A&M University and Texas Tech University.

Big East Conference (15) The Big East moves into 2005-06 with an emphasis on the word "Big" as the league becomes the largest Division I-A conference in the nation with 16 outstanding academic and athletic institutions. The goal of the BIG EAST has always been to compete at the highest level and to do so with integrity and sportsmanship.

Big Ten Conference (12) The Big Ten is an association of 11 world-class universities whose member institutions share a common mission of research, graduate, professional and undergraduate teaching and public service. Intercollegiate athletics has an important place within the mission.

Conference USA (13) All C-USA institutions sponsor Division I-A football, along with several other men's and women's athletic programs, many of which compete regularly for NCAA Championships. C-USA sponsors competition in 19 sports - nine for men (baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis and indoor and outdoor track and field) and 10 for women (basketball, cross country, golf, softball, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, indoor and outdoor track and field and volleyball).

Mid-American Conference (13) The MAC was the first Division I-A conference to have its own Hall of Fame, and began honoring its tradition in 1988 with a Hall of Fame. From 1988 to May of 1994, a total of 52 individuals were inducted into the MAC Hall of Fame.

Mountain West Conference (10) The MWC was conceived on May 26, 1998, when the presidents of eight institutions -- Air Force, Brigham Young, Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State, UNLV, Utah and Wyoming -- decided to form a new NCAA Division I-A intercollegiate athletic conference.

Pacific-10 Conference (11) The roots of the PAC-10 go back nearly 90 years to December 15, 1915, when the Pacific Coast Conference (PCC) was founded at a meeting at the Oregon Hotel in Portland, Ore. Original membership consisted of four schools - the University of California at Berkeley, the University of Washington, the University of Oregon, and Oregon State College (now Oregon State University). All still are charter members of the Conference.

Southeastern Conference (13) The SEC, with its storied 73-year history of athletic achievements and academic excellence, has built perhaps the greatest tradition of intercollegiate competition of any league in the country since its inception in 1933.

Sun Belt Conference (14) The SBC is headquartered in downtown New Orleans and has been in the New Orleans area since 1991. Before settling in its current home, the office was located in suburban Metairie. Prior to moving to the "Big Easy," the league was based in Tampa, Fla., from 1977 to 1991. The original office was located in Charlotte, N.C., during the 1976-77 academic year.

Western Athletic Conference (10) Presently, the WAC crowns team and individual champions in 19 sports – eight men’s and 11 women’s. For the men, there are championships in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, tennis, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field. Championships for women are held in basketball, cross country, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field and volleyball.
